Campaigns
Campaigns are one-time or recurring broadcast emails sent to a targeted audience. Use campaigns when you want to send the same message to many contacts at once -- newsletters, product announcements, promotions, or scheduled digests.
For the API reference, see Campaigns API.
Campaigns vs Flows
| Campaigns | Flows | |
|---|---|---|
| Trigger | Manual send or schedule | Automatic (event-driven) |
| Audience | Segment (all matching contacts) | Individual contacts who trigger an event |
| Use case | Newsletters, announcements, promotions | Welcome series, abandoned cart, transactional |
| Timing | Scheduled or immediate | Real-time when event occurs |
Creating a Campaign
- Navigate to Campaigns in the sidebar and click "New Campaign"
- Name your campaign and choose a sender identity (name, email, reply-to)
- Select a template -- choose from your saved email templates
- Choose your audience -- select a segment to target
- Review the audience preview to see how many contacts will receive the email
Sending Options
Send Now
Sends the campaign immediately to all contacts in the selected segment.
Schedule
Pick a date and time for the campaign to be sent automatically. Scheduled campaigns can be cancelled before the send time.
A/B Testing
Test two variants (different subjects, templates, or sender names) on a percentage of your audience. After a test period, the winning variant is sent to the remaining contacts.
- Enable A/B testing when creating the campaign
- Configure Variant A and Variant B
- Set the test percentage (e.g., 20% gets A, 20% gets B)
- Set the test duration (e.g., 4 hours)
- Choose the winning metric (open rate or click rate)
- Send -- Synapse auto-evaluates and sends the winner
Recurring
Send the same campaign on a schedule (daily, weekly, monthly). Each send creates a new "instance" with its own analytics.
Campaign Lifecycle

Analytics
After a campaign is sent, view detailed analytics:
- Delivery metrics: Sent, delivered, bounced, failed
- Engagement metrics: Opened, clicked, spam reports
- Rates: Open rate, click rate, bounce rate
- Recipient list: See the status of each individual recipient
- A/B results: Compare variant performance (if A/B testing was used)
Best Practices
- Always send a test email before launching to verify template rendering
- Use segments to target the right audience -- avoid sending to your entire contact list
- A/B test subjects to improve open rates over time
- Schedule during business hours in your recipients' timezone for better engagement
- Monitor bounce rates -- high bounces hurt your sender reputation
